Status: Expired March 30, 2026. Copa Airlines ran a tiered buy-miles bonus from late February through March 30, 2026, topping out at 60% on purchases of 15,000+ miles. Preserved here for context, with current strategy in the last section.
What the offer was
Copa offered a tiered structure on ConnectMiles purchases through March 30, 2026:
- 1,000 to 2,000 miles: no bonus.
- 3,000 to 9,000 miles: 40% bonus.
- 10,000 to 14,000 miles: 50% bonus.
- 15,000 to 100,000 miles: 60% bonus, equivalent to 1.87 cents per mile.
Non-elite members could buy up to 100,000 miles per calendar year; the platform was Points.com, the standard buy-miles processor.
When the math worked
Copa ConnectMiles still uses fixed award charts on Star Alliance partners, which is the entire reason this bonus was worth modeling. The two redemptions where 1.87 cpp routinely beat cash:
- U.S. to Europe business class at 70,000 miles one-way. Buying that pile cost $1,309 with the bonus; cash fares ran $2,500 to $4,000.
- U.S. to Asia business class at 75,000 miles. $1,403 in purchased miles versus $3,000 to $5,000 cash.
Domestic Copa or Star Alliance economy redemptions weren't the play. At 12,500 miles one-way for domestic United, you'd pay $234 in purchased miles to save $150 to $250 in cash. The math fails on short-haul.
What to do now (April 2026)
No follow-up Copa buy-miles bonus has been announced as of April 24, 2026.
Copa typically runs a buy-miles bonus three to four times a year. For the next cycle:
- Identify the redemption first. The fixed-chart sweet spots haven't moved. Premium-cabin Star Alliance long-haul where cash fares are high.
- Check transfer alternatives before buying. Copa is not a typical transferable-points partner from major U.S. credit card programs, so most readers will be in genuine buy-or-don't territory rather than transfer-or-buy.
- The 60% tier is the only one to use. Anything below it gives you a price per mile that doesn't beat the better Star Alliance award charts (Aeroplan, Singapore KrisFlyer) for most U.S.-origin redemptions.
If you're sitting on Copa miles from this promo or earlier ones, Star Alliance partner business class on the fixed chart is still the highest-value spend. Don't let them sit speculative.
